<p>Hmm. I always just thought that was "TV rules". But I think I get what you are saying. Back in the old cartoon days, when the story of Tom and Jerry changed so that Tom and Jerry were friends instead of one perpetually chasing the other, it started sucking.
</p><p>One thing about the 'wars' in TPB I have noticed: Jim Lahey's motives for participating in them seem to have less to do with preventing crime than they do impressing Randy, and giving him and Randy a passion to share. When Randy is not at Jim's side, Jim either slides into apathy or goes completely off the rails into psychopathy. He's also deeply sexually frustrated by Julian, who's quite obviously hetero.
